The ouster of Gov. Fr. Ed Panlilio from the governorship of Pampanga once again reinforces the belief that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is being used to “terminate” the political lives of the enemies of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Panlilio was the third governor who got axed for not playing ball with Gloria.
The day before Panlilio’s ouster, Comelec declared that Bulacan Gov. Joselito “Jonjon” Mendoza lost the recount to former Agrarian Reform Secretary Roberto Pagdanganan.
In December 2009, Comelec ousted Isabela Governor Grace Padaca and declared former Governor Benjamin …

Pampanga Governor Ed Panlilio joined the growing list of Liberal Party (LP) local executives to be unseated as the Commission on Elections Second Division on Thursday ordered him to vacate the gubernatorial post, in favor of former provincial board member Lilia Pineda.
The decision came a day after the poll body likewise declared that Bulacan Gov. Joselito Mendoza, also of LP, lost the recount to former Agrarian Reform Secretary Roberto Pagdanganan. (See: Pagdanganan-Mendoza standoff grips Bulacan)
In December last year, the Comelec also declared null and void …

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Eddie Panlilio said Tuesday that he and Liberal Party (LP) provincial line-up are ready to slug it out with gubernatorial aspirant Lilia Pineda’s camp.
“Among Ed” Panlilio and “Nanay Baby” Pineda are seen to battle it out for the top post of the province, one-on-one, after Senator Lito Lapid backed out of the race, which also saw Vice Governor Joseller “Yeng” Guiao backsliding to vice gubernatorial post in favor of his running mate in the 2007 elections.

Is he a priest, prophet or president-to-be? These are the questions that are surrounding the public announcement by Pampanga governor, Father Eddie Panlilio that he will seek the Presidency of the Philippines, “if the support is there”, says this penniless priest-on-leave turned politician. He won an extremely popular mandate as governor of Pampanga in 2007 in a phenomenal election that narrowly dethroned the bid of the powerful Pineda family clan, a close ally of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who is also from the province. The defeated …

Manila, Philippines – Priest-turned Governor Eddie Panlilio on Tuesday (July 22, 2009) announced that he had decided to run for president in 2010.
Unlike other politicians, Fr. Panlilio said he has no political agenda, no business interest to protect, and no family to feed. “I can serve full time.”
“When I decided to offer myself (as a candidate) I felt at peace. I’m doing this not for me, not for myself. I felt God wanted me to go on higher service,” he said.
“The priesthood that I love …

“The President will support those who will continue her vision and those who have a proven track record in being the leader regardless of who he or she maybe as this point in time,” announced Press Secretary Cerge Remonde. He also said that “Malacañang may look at the possibility of adopting Pampanga Governor Ed Panlilio as its standard bearer in the 2010 presidential elections.” The question that comes to mind is: If “vision” and “leadership” is what President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo were looking for in a presidential candidate, …

My unsolicited advice to those who are pushing Pampanga Gov. Among Ed Panlilio and Isabela Gov. Grace Padaca into the presidential and vice-presidential race in 2010: Let us make haste slowly.
Unless there is an overwhelming groundswell of support for Panlilio-Padaca in 2009-2010, as there was for Cory Aquino-Doy Laurel in 1986, their entry into presidential politics will just further split the opposition to President Arroyo’s Lakas-Kampi-NPC mean machine, making it easier for the hated trapos and political dynasts to prevail.
In the 2004 presidential elections, the reformist …
