The Madriaga file on the NBN/ZTN broadband deal scandal
February 7, 2008
By Ellen Tordesillas
THE following document landed in my mailbox. It’s supposed to have been written by a certain Dante Madriaga. (A check with UP alumni activities show a Dante Madriaga as earning a BSE from UP in 1966.). For what’s it worth, here it is.***
I am an electronic/electrical engineer by profession. I attended the University of the Philippines and Texas A&M University. I have been in the communications industry for over 30 years.
I was a part …

Dear Folks,
This must be another of Gloria Arroyo’s jokes. According to the following news article, Gloria Arroyo said in a radio interview that she “moved swiftly” to cancel the deal “the moment I learned there was the slightest suspicion of anomaly” in the ZTE-NBN contract. Ha ha ha…
The truth of the matter is: she “moved swiftly” to have the contract signed …

Dear Folks,
It’s no wonder that Gloria Arroyo did not stop the signing of the ZTE-NBN deal when she was told the day before that there was corruption involved in the deal; she didn’t want to lose the $30 million remainder of the $41 million advanced by ZTE. Is it a concidence then that a few days after the contract was signed, FG Mike Arroyo was reported to have left the Philippines for Italy? Well, …

Fear is the perpetrator of evil rulers
AS I WRECK THIS CHAIR By William M. Esposo
Tuesday, February 26, 2008
A female Swiss exchange student once asked me: “How come the Filipinos don’t rise up and fight? Most of them have nothing to lose except their lives.”
She asked me this in 1980 after traveling all over the Philippines during the one year that she spent here. She saw first hand the social injustice under martial law and was appalled by the human rights abuses wrought by the military, especially in the countryside. …

Red scare for “coup me”
(Herman Tiu Laurel/ Infowars column/ 2-25-2008 MON.) Press Statement on Malacañang’s
On February 22, 2008, several mainstream newspapers carried a full-page ad by a patently Malacañang-funded group calling itself the “Kongreso ng Mamamayan,” which someone more aptly called “Contsaba ni Ma’am Yan” (or ‘Con’ ni Ma’am Yan). In a quote lifted from my February 12 Tribune column the shadowy group highlighted only the following italicized portion, leaving out the rest of the paragraph to omit the article’s anti-GMA theme:
“Seven years of GMA corruption and oppression, years of …

LETTERS FROM PORT MORESBY (YEAR 3)

Loyalty now a silent milking cow
LOYALTY has become a multi-million peso/dollar commodity for those who are close to the powers-that-be. To them, it is their dogged commitment to stick to the seat of power come hell or high water; it is a determined effort to simply play deaf to the prevailing public outcry that clamorously tells them such allegiance has now become a tool of oppression, and to play blind to the overlapping web of blatant corruption in their midst.
While it …

‘She is Evil’
By Antonio C. Abaya
Written on Feb. 20, 2008
For the Standard Today,
February 21 issue
“That woman is evil.” Romulo Neri is said to have said that of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, according to his good friend Jun Lozada during the televised hearings on the ZTE scandal before the Senate committees last Feb. 18..
In a subsequent televised Malacanang press conference, Neri said, “I do not remember saying it.”
Is this Lozada’s word against Neri’s? It is actually much more than that..
That statement was said to have been uttered by Neri on …

Dear Folks,
The following statement was made by Romulo Neri. Now, he’s beginning to talk like Barack Obama — “politics of hope.” What is this guy talking about? The Filipino people have been hoping — and praying — for deliverance from the gang of thieves for the past seven years.
What is really funny is when he said, “I urge our political leaders to …

‘FG heads midnight Cabinet’
By Marichu Villanueva
Thursday, February 21, 2008
He’s just an “ordinary lawyer” who does not meddle in affairs of government, according to First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo.
But Gina de Venecia, who until recently was a close ally of President Arroyo, said yesterday that the controversial First Gentleman in fact presides over a “midnight Cabinet” that is deeply involved in affairs of state.
The wife of Pangasinan Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr. has come out swinging against the administration since his Palace-backed ouster as House speaker.
In separate interviews with The …

Dear Folks,
To date, this must be the funniest “Joke of the Day.” Luli Arroyo, the young — and innocent — daughter of Gloria Arroyo posted a lengthy article on ‘Kaibigan ni GMA.’ I can understand why Luli is clueless of what’s happening to her dear mom and dad. Luli is “working” abroad, away from the fire in the kitchen. Also, her mom and dad didn’t probably tell her what they’re doing to the Motherland. This …
