Webster’s Dictionary definition of Conviction: A strong persuasion or belief.
It has been difficult for voters to understand or follow Romney’s genuine beliefs due to his constant flip – flops on the issues in this year’s elections. It seems that Romney’s only persuasion or belief that is unquestioned is his faith in the Mormon Church.
It has been difficult, even for seasoned politicians, to follow Romney’s stand on the issues, because there never was a chameleon that changes colors as quickly as Romney. He is a politician who will promise an audience composed of cannibals a dinner of boiled missionaries.
In a couple of days after The Wall Street Journal called for the nomination of U.S. Representative Paul Ryan to be Romney’s running mate, Romney instantly complied and named Ryan as his Vice President.
Speaking of Vice Presidents, when Politico asked McCain why he went with Palin over Romney he, said “Oh come on, because we thought that Sarah Palin was the better candidate.”
Ryan is the author of “A Roadmap to America”, a time wasting budget plan passed by the Republican majority in the Lower House, knowing it was doomed from the beginning.
“A Roadmap to America’s Future”, was just a symbolical grandstand play by the GOP. The New York Times called Ryan’s budget plan, “the most extreme budget plan passed by a House of Congress in Modern Times.”
On the morning after naming Ryan as his Vice President, Romney already started running away from “A Road to America’s Future”, saying he had a plan of his own, upon hearing vigorous protests from the public, including from some Republicans. It might be too late. He is stuck with Ryan, but you never know. Romney is an accomplished flip – floper. Vice Presidential candidate can be ousted as in the case of Senator Eagleton during the 1972 presidential elections.
Let’s review now some GOP issues, that have just recently become somewhat settled but still remain a bit cloudy, because of Romney’s flip-flops on Health Care, Abortion and Birth Control, Medicare and Immigration and how they differ from the Obama Administration policy.
HEALTH CARE:
Romney derisively calls the Affordable Health Act “Obamacare” and promises to work for its repeal on “Day One” of his presidency after the Supreme Court approved it. Romney won the governor’s seat in Massachusetts, a blue state, Kennedy bastion, because he promised and delivered a health care program similar to the Affordable Health Act. It is a classic Romney flip-flop technique (the feeding of missionaries to an audience of cannibals).
ABORTION AND BIRTH CONTROL:
Romney now opposes abortion rights after once supporting them. He now says state law should guide abortion rights and would like to see the Supreme Court reverse the Roe v. Wade ruling on abortion rights.
Obama supports abortion rights and a health law requiring that contraceptives be made available for free to women enrolled in workplace health plans.
MEDICARE:
So far Romney has not yet clarified his position regarding, Ryan’s “A Roadmap for America’s Future” He is running away from his achievements as Massachusetts’ governor, despite the fact that more governors have won the White House than senators or even Vice Presidents, because according to Time Magazine, “Republican doctrine discourages talk of Romney’s term as Massachusetts’ governor, which featured state – mandated health care, gun control, abortion rights and other heresies”
Under “A Roadmap for America”, Ryan calls for the conversion of Medicare into a Voucher program where senior citizens would be given $6,400 each to buy private health insurance without provisions for future rising costs.
The Patient Protection provision of the Affordable Care Act, called Obamacare by Romney, would lower the cost of health care without reducing senior citizen benefits.
IMMIGRATION:
Last June Obama issued a directive that immigrants brought illegally to the United States as children be exempted from deportation and granted work permits if they apply.
Romney wants to build a U.S. – Mexico Wall and oppose educational benefits to illegal immigrants. Instead, he calls for undocumented aliens to deport themselves by leaving the country voluntarily. He criticized Obama’s decision on illegal immigrants who came as children. With the Latino vote in mind, he did not announce whether he would rescind the policy if elected.
