China’s Public Enemy # 1 is no longer exiled human rights activist Chen Guancheng but Loida Nicolas-Lewis, the New York-based national chair of the US Pinoys for Good Governance (USP4GG).After Lewis held a press conference in Manila on July 14 to announce the worldwide campaign to “Boycott Made in China Products”, China’s government-controlled media fired back with a newscast calling on the Chinese people to boycott a chain of convenience stores in China believed to be owned by Lewis.
According to the English language translation of the nationwide newscast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-OuQ5BnzTo ), “Chinese are not happy with one particular Filipino. The mastermind behind calling on Filipinos throughout the world to carry out large-scale anti-China demonstrations was revealed to be Filipino-American Loida Nicolas-Lewis, Chairman and CEO of TLC Beatrice (China), Limited, a Cayman company that operates retail convenience stores in four Chinese cities: Xiamen, Chengdu, Suzhou and Guangzhou. Chinese netizens were shocked by this news and urged a boycott on her businesses in China.”
Unfortunately for Lewis’ former Chinese business partners who bought out Lewis’ ownership interest in the “Beatrice” stores several years ago, the China authorities are boycotting a wholly-owned Chinese business.
In her July 14 press conference in Manila, Lewis explained that her group’s call for the global boycott of all kinds of China-made products was a way of matching China’s diplomatic and military arrogance in claiming ownership of the Scarborough Shoal and the Kalayaan Group of Islands in the West Philippine Sea. While the Scarborough Shoal is located more than 550 nautical miles from the nearest China port of Hainan, about 124 nautical miles from the Philippines, within the country’s 200 mile Exclusive Economic Zone under the United Nations Convention
“The ‘Boycott Made in China Goods’ campaign will not be limited to Filipinos as it will be carried out globally to encourage all the people of the world to join,” Lewis said. “We will join with those boycotting China-made fake pharmaceutical products and baby formula food laced with melamine,” she added.
Ted Laguatan, USP4GG spokesman, said in the same press conference that he expects the campaign to go viral. “We hope to achieve the level of response and outrage that was generated when the Americans found out that the US Olympic team’s uniforms for the London 2012 Olympics were made in China,” Laguatan said.
At the press conference, Lewis also announced that her US Pinoys group will initiate the Global Day of Prayer for Peace in the Scarborough Shoal on August 21, the 29th anniversary of the martyrdom of Ninoy Aquino.
On August 21, 2011, USP4GG sponsored a Day of Prayer for Peace in the Spratlys which was held in 175 cities throughout North America. “This year the global target is 300 cities,” said Charito Benipayo, coordinator of the 2011 Northern California prayer campaign that was held in 20 cities in Northern California.
Information about the August 21 Global Day of Prayer can be obtained from uspgg.org.
“China has overwhelming military superiority with 63 submarines, 25 destroyers and one aircraft carrier while the Philippines has none of those. Faith and prayer are the weapons we Filipinos have against China,” Lewis declared.
China’s hyperbolic media attack on Loida Nicolas-Lewis reveals a deep concern about the possible disastrous effect of a consumer boycott on China’s economy. It may be the Filipinos most effective weapon.

That’s all well and good, boycotting Chinese products globally. When that happens, where are we going to get the products that our vendors rely on to make a living. Almost every product that are being sold in our country are Chinese made. I’m just wondering, those chains of stores that are in China supposedly owned by Ms. Lewis, I guess they’re going to have to close them down, I doubt that they will find many products that are either made in he Philippines or someplace else. If they really want to boycott Chinese made products, then quit sending them to China to be manufactured.
I just received this by email today and I want to share it:

Subject: 1 August to 1 September]
AUGUST 1st to Sept. 1st
Well over 50 yrs ago I knew a lady who would not buy Christmas gifts if they were made in China. Her daughter will recognize her in the following.
Did y’all see Diane Sawyer’s special report?
They removed ALL items from a typical, middle class family’s home that were not made in the USA .
There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they showed truckloads of items – USA made – being brought in to replace everything and talked about how to find these items and the difference in price etc..
It was interesting that Diane said if every American spent just $64 more than normal on USA made items this year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs!
I WAS BUYING FOOD THE OTHER DAY AT WALMART and ON THE LABEL OF SOME PRODUCTS IT SAID ‘FROM CHINA ‘
FOR EXAMPLE THE “OUR FAMILY” BRAND OF THE MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN ‘FROM CHINA ‘
I WAS SHOCKED SO FOR A FEW MORE CENTS I BOUGHT THE LIBERTY GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE SINCE IT’S FROM CALIF
Are we Americans as dumb as we appear — or — is it that we just do not think? The Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets.
70% of Americans,.. believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.
Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges? You Can..DO IT YOURSELF,AMERICA !!
Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says ‘Made in China ‘ or ‘PRC’ (and that now includes Hong Kong), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed atwhat you can do without.
Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example. The point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own.
THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million Americans each refuse to buy just $20 of Chinese goods, that’s a billion dollar trade imbalanceresolved in our favor…fast!!
Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on Aug. 1st and continue it until Sept. 1st. That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they might have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it.
Remember, August 1st to Sept. 1st !START NOW.
Send this to everybody you know. Let’s show them that we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted.
If we can’t live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives,WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET!
Mr. Rodis, if you can convince the majority of those welfare recipient not to buy any products from China, that would be a major accomplishment. I’m willing to bet that your voice will fall on deaf ears even if you put up a two thousand watts PA system in front of Wal-Mart.
Hi Noah,
The U.S. is the biggest market for Chinese products. Almost 100% of vitamins sold in the U.S. were made in China. However, they’re not labeled as “Made in China” because American companies buy them in bulk and re-package them for retail. But the real culprits are the U.S. companies — like Bain Capital — who outsource the manufacture of vitamins and other commodities to China to increase their profits. These profiteers are now trying to take over the U.S. government by funding their candidates through Super PACs. The coming election is the battle between democracy and plutocracy. If Mitt Romney wins, rest assured that the U.S. government would be ran by oligarchs and plutocrats and you’ll see RoboCops replacing policemen.
Perry
Perry, may I suggest that politics not be included in the exchange of ideas and opinions about about our reaction to Chinese bullying. Let us center the discussion on how we Pinoys can make China suffer the dire consequences of her disregard for the rule of law and fairplay. The RP in the current sorry situation of its military capability vis-a-vis China’s powerful war making machine, can never win a shooting war with that economic and military giant, but we can still fight back as Loida proposes. If we have to sacrifice in the process, like possible loss of jobs in the RP, so be it, if in exchange we could make a dent on China’s economic armor. We Pinoys, in this fight against China’s illegal intrusion on RP territory will definitely need the help of Uncle Sam when push comes to shove, so being critical of either American presidential candidate may work against us. Let’s concentrate on painting an ugly portrait of China’s arrogance in the eyes of the community of nations.
Hi Romy,
I think it is important to consider the consequences of who is going to win the U.S. presidential elections. China’s economic rise is the result of bad U.S. economic policy. If the U.S. government continues the same policies adopted during the George W. Bush era, then it would have a negative impact on the global economy. A boycott of Chinese products would succeed only if the American public — and by extension, the American voters — would participate.
Perry
Amen to that…i already STOP buying made in China products and also started sharing with my families and friends backhome.
The power of Facebook, Twitter, et.al. will our weapons against Chinese adventurism.
We hope and pray that this is the beginning of our struggle against a giant communist country who supported the leftist insurgent anywhere in the world especially in the Philippines.
Enough is enough! Boycott all China made products……
July 22, 2012
Hurray for Loida. Let’s all back up her call. At the same time, Noah’s last sentence is just exactly what we need to do; at the same time, we Filipinos everywhere now must help our Inang Bayan with more innovativeness and sacrifice to make Loida’s and Noah’s suggestions work. Now is the time for PNoy to intensive the search for cheaper energy so we can manufacture what we import from China. PNoy and company just have to read what we (the Futuristics Center) had last June 26th at the Asian Institute of Management on how we can improve our supply situation in the face of these Chinese arrogance and bullying. Cheers Gil
We are with you Ma’am Loida Lewis against fighting the giant Panda (stolen from Tibet).
We also started now sending message to all families, co-workers, friends, and fellow Pilipinos around the world to join side by side this coming 21st August 2012 a worldwide Prayers and vigil against Chinese adventurism.
That story there, was written by a moron, I think.
Boycotting Chinese-made products was an idea by many people here in America for a long, long time now. It was repeatedly broadcasted and endorsed by Oprah on her talk show and by Dianne Sawyer, the anchorwoman of ABC News. Lopita Lewis is merely a copycat of this idea. She’s not China’s Public Enemy number one. That’s a BIG BS.
Also, if you’re going to boycott or banned Chinese-made products in the Philippines, there won’t be any products left to be sold. Those products are the only ones exclusively produced by Filipinos.
As my Katotong Noah said, most of the products sold in our poor Motherland are made in China. The Chinese owned the Philippine economy.
And, as y’all know even Pee-Noy is part Chinese.
Boycott Chinese-made products in the Philippines. It ain’t gonna happen, mister! It’s a stupid idea. Sa Amerika, pwede pa. Sa Pinas, ain’t no way, Hoosay. Si Beho, tuso yan, pare ko. Taob tayong mga Pinoy diyan.
Pareng Jesse, like you said, tuso ang mga chinoy. Who’s to say that they are not going to change the label on these products. It took the Chinese this long to become a major economic power and they are not about to let that momentum go. I really don’t think that the American people are that dumb and naive about Chinese products being sold in this country. It’s just that people are not going to go all over town looking for those elusive american made products. When I was growing up, I remember my mother buying me toys that are made in Hong Kong or even Japan, and I will always tell her I did’nt want them because I only like the ones made in the US. Well, until we get all our heads out of that orifice where the sun rarely shine, we’re just going to have to put up with it a little while longer. Like I said, we can slowly choke the Chinese’ economy by not sending any more products to be manufactured in their country. Will that happened in our lifetime? I doubt it.
Let’s not be too quick on the draw. To say that only banig and balut are being produced in the Philippines is not only a big insult to Pinoys, but also shows inanity and ignorance of what the real situation is in the old country. While it’s true that the Chinese in the RP owns a lot of business there, it cannot be denied that those businesses provide jobs for Pinoys. Loida Lewis did the right thing. So what if boycott of Chinese made goods has been going on the U.S. for sometime now? The RP is not the U.S. and the same is true of countries all over the world where tens of thousands of Pinoy live and work. That being the case, Loida Lewis cannot be called a copy cat. She may not be China’s PE1 but she has definitely become a thorn on the side of that greedy bully! And what is the relevance of PNoy being part Chinese to the boycott of Chinese made goods in the RP? Please, if we cannot contribute something intelligent to the discussion, let us simply keep quiet. Let all the clowning be left to the comedians!
Come on Pareng Romy, there’s no harm done in having a little bit of humor on this subject. By the way, when is the last time you bought something made in the Philippines other that those bottled desserts and sinigang mixes?
Hey Romeo,
But I am a comedian. My hero is Dolphy, may he rest in peace. Comedians have more intelligence than morons.
If you don’t have the intelligence of a moron, you would not have said what you said. You said, if you remember what you said, in your comment: big businesses owned by Chinese in the Philippines “provide jobs for Pinoys.” That’s well and good. Now, if you’re going to boycott Chinese-made products that are sold in these stores that provide jobs for Pinoys in the Motherland, then they would go bankrupt and the stores would shut down, along with those jobs that these Pinoys have.
If you have the kind of intelligence NOT that of a moron, you would realize that what you said is moron-like. You follow me, Romeo?
Now, as to Pee-Noy being part Chinese … the Chinese in him could “ignite” some sort of loyalty and affinity with the Chinese, right? That’s the answer to your question as to his “relevance” in the matter. You got that?
Pare, the main point of my comment was my disagreement with the writer of this piece, for calling Lopita Lewis as China’s Public Enemy Number One, making her a bida, and making it sound like the “boycott” of Chinese-made products was her original idea. It wasn’t. It was copied. If an idea is not yours and you claim it as your own, or someone said or hinted that the idea was yours, then you’re a copy cat. And since this idea is an “old” idea, hashed and rehashed in America, and now just being brought to Pinas, then that idea is copied. You follow me, Romeo? Do you now have an understanding of my previous comment?
Also, my use of the words, “banig” and “balut” are symbols and examples of native products that are made in the Philippines. There are many such products, but if I am going to list all of them in a comment, then surely Pareng Perry will cut me off.
You also don’t any right to tell me to “keep quiet” na lang. My contribution to this discussion is more significant and MORE intelligent than yours. I hope you’re not too much of a moron not to understand what I said here. Dahil, simpleng English lang yan and straight to the point. Walang paligoy-ligoy.
I am a comedian, yes, but not a moron. And keep in mind, comedians are more intelligent than morons. Okay, take it easy now, Romeo, o Romeo…hehehe.
Mat 22:21 “Then JESUS said to them, Give to Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and to God the things which are God’s.” Likewise, give to Filipinos the things which are Filipinos’… like the Panatag Shoal etc…
Pareng Balmero, I don’t want to sound like I’m being sacrilege but God, in my opinion is staying away from our country’s affairs and he has been for quite some time. I have a feeling that somehow we have offended him. Like I said, the Chinese are going to do all they can to see how far they can push us. I think we are in deep doodoo, all of this probably could’ve have been avoided if only Uncle Sam was allowed to stay along with his big stick. I don’t remember the Chinese being that adventurous when the US Forces was in our midst, do you?
…worst come to worst and maybe some sector will shout ye hey! democracy will not work if our government focus only on corruption and good governance…we will be all “NOYCHIN” soon…squatting or illegal or informal settlers in our own backyard (country – spratly…)is not new to us..sanay na tayo..kasalanan yan ng mga namuno sa atin…spain, americans, japs, pinoy and chin…
Bossing, why are you still putting the blame on countries that no longer have any influence on how we run our country. We’ve been a free country now for almost seven decades, countries that are once behind us on economic prosperity are now way ahead of us, on everything. The fate of our country have been in our own hands and if we don’t get our shit together soon, history will repeat itself, we will again lose our right to govern ourselves, and I think China can sense that.
Pareng Noah, calling someone a moron because one did not agree with what he wrote is never humorous. The Philippine made items you mentioned are some of the products from the RP available in the U.S. But in the RP there are thousands of locally made goods, good ones too, that anyone can buy. Marikina made shoes is just one them. Unfortunately, most of them are not exported, unlike cheap, Chinese merchandise. We can be humorous and at the same time constructive. And we can always disagree but being disagreeable should never be an option. After all we are talking about our very own patria adorada—las Islas Filipinas, perla del mar oriente!
Mga pare kong negatives, let’s do something we can in our own little ways – stop buying products made in china every time we have a chance. Recall that a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step so let’s take an action now. Besides, if you do not make a step forward, you will always be in the same place where you are now, pareng noah. Intsik ka, ano?
Lolo Jose, hindi ako intsik, I’ve been mistaken for a Mexican and an Arab but never a Chinese. And just to let you know, I consider myself more of a realist and an optimist, why, because everything that we express in this column really have no effect whatsoever on what’s taking place in our country.
How can you say that if you don’t even want to try it in the first place?
Comrade Joselito, please enlighten all of us on what we should do in dealing with the Chinese? Okay, so we all agree that one thing that we can do is to quit buying products that are made in China, that’s seem easy enough to do, but convincing millions of our kababayans to do the same is not going to be an easy task. The main reason why Chinese products are so abundant in our country is the cost, it’s cheap and it’s something that most Filipino can deal with. The government can probably put a total boycott on all Chinese products, but there will be consequences, the Chinese government can also fire back and boycott all products and goods coming from our country including OFW’s. Are we prepare to deal with these consequences? Our country have two options to deal with the Chinese. First, we can continue to have a diplomatic dialogue with them, second, well, the second option will not work because, militarily, we don’t have shit. We hit them with a bazooka and they hit us with ballistic missile. So in reality, the Chinese got us by the balls, they are well aware of how weak our system of government is that’s why they are going to continue to bully us until the UN steps in and maybe do something about it. In the meantime, some of us will go ahead and quit buying stuff from China, but I doubt that it will even put a small dent on their economy.
2 thumbs up Lolo Jose!
Mr. Beho, just to let you know, I’m nowhere near where you are right now. I was actually thinking of retiring in the Philippines and I had second thoughts about it. Our attitude did’nt change a bit, I think that’s why our country is all screwed up because of that. Before you people start throwing away your Chinese made products, find something else to replace it. It is so easy to say, don’t buy anymore Chinese products but can you convince the rest of the country to do it? You can’t even convince yourselves to quit throwing garbage all over the place so that when the next typhoon hits the area won’t be flooded. Discipline is not in our vocabulary so I doubt that you are ready to dispose of your Chinese made Nike, probably fake anyway or your Chinese made Ray-Ban. Tell Pnoy to quit allowing Chinese products into the country, the result may just surprise you.
don’t buy anymore Chinese products but can you convince the rest of the country to do it?__ano sa tingin mo ang nangyari na ngayon?
You can’t even convince yourselves to quit throwing garbage all over the place so that when the next typhoon hits the area won’t be flooded___excuse me? siguro mga kadugo mo andito sa Pinas ganun sila, at siguro kung andito ka ganun ka rin, tapon dito tapon duon! kaya isa ka sa mga Pinoy na sakit sa ulo ng lipunan.
Discipline is not in our vocabulary –aaahh inamin mo rin na ganun nga kayo!
so I doubt that you are ready to dispose of your Chinese made Nike, probably fake anyway or your Chinese made Ray-Ban.___hahahah! matagal na dispose yun, alam mo na made in chinese beho hindi reliable, hindi magtatagal!!! at never na akong bibili ng mga produktong made in china!
Tell Pnoy to quit allowing Chinese products into the country, the result may just surprise you___yah right, we already did!!!lol! kala mo ha!….keep an eye on the philippines!.
Get your head out of your ass and look around you. Do you know what a third world look like? Well, our country is beginning to look like one, and if people like you can’t see the forest from the trees, or at least take your blinders off, you may have a clearer view of what our country is really like.
“THE ENEMY OF MY ENEMY IS MY FRIEND”
My first eye to eye contact with now Atty Loida Nicolas Lewis was when I was attending a class way back in early ‘60s at UP Herran (Pedro Gil, now). She was campaigning for her party and for herself to gain a seat in the UP Student government council.
I’ve not seen her nor heard about her since then, except in the TV and written articles about her and her late husband Reginald Lewis (I think Mr. Lewis gave million dollars donation to UP before he died).
From then and now, Ms. Loida has gone a long way. She made a name for herself and managed well the business empire left by Mr. Lewis.
In short, I admire Ms. Loida and I’m proud of her accomplishment – more so in leading the way to BEGIN the FIRST step of the PHL and OTHERS toward the journey to a thousand miles in boycotting the “Made in China” products and services.
I personally consider, therefore, Ms. Loida, a FRIEND and FRIEND of OTHER NATIONS who oppose CHINA’s provocative motives in the SPRATLY and as a BULLY SQUATTER in the ASEAN region.
Am I against the Chinese citizens and CHINA as a NATION? Of course, NO!
I am against the present CHINESE LEADERSHIP in their stand against its ASEAN neighbors in claiming properties which are not theirs.
The 2 KEY SUCCESS AREAS I mentioned in my previous commentary – DIPLOMACY and ECONOMICS are bearing fruits, I believe:
(1) In DIPLOMACY, I think PHL foreign staff is working tirelessly and closely again with the ASEAN members, through the help of Indonesia, to reconsider and come up with a common stand in having a CODE OF CONDUCT in the sea lane of SPRATLY and the West PHL Sea, against CHINA’s wish.
(2) In ECONOMICS, the move to BOYCOTT must come from the concerned citizens of the country being bullied by the CHINESE ADMINISTRATION and not from the PHL government because the CITIZENS are the CUSTOMERS, and VENDORS who supply service and materials to CHINA. Therefore, Ms. Lodi has the integrity to lead the BOYCOTT and should not be the PHL government.
Let me re-phrase the above saying, as:
THE #1 ENEMY OF OUR ENEMY (CHINA) IS OUR FRIEND, LOIDA N LEWIS.
Let us support Ms. Lewis and the mission of her group – US PINOYS FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE!!!
BOYCOTT “MADE IN CHINA” under the present CHINA’s leadership.
VERY WELL SAID!!AKO, DITO SA PINAS, I STARTED NOT TO BUY CHINESE GOODS!!
Aki, if that’s the case you might as well get rid of all your stuff at home. There’s hardly anything in the Philippine market that is’nt manufactured in China. I understand that this is something that must be done not just in our country, but globally. Our country as far as the Chinese are concerned is only a small speck of dust, and even if our government decide to boycott all Chinese products, knowing how corrupt our system of government is, these products will still make it into our market. Is’nt strange that we’ve tried just about every trick in the book to correct all the things that are wrong about our country and what have we accomplished. Our problem really is that we’re all mouth and no action. We get easily offended when we’re told how screwed up we are as a nation yet we continue to do things that makes us look stupid in the eyes of the world. Sure we can try not buy Chinese made products, but what about the other eighty two million Filipinos who rely solely on these products. If you think our economy is bad now, wait until there’s nothing else on the market for the people to buy. And let’s not forget that the majority of big businesses in our country are either owned or run by Chinese businessmen, what should we do with them? Shut them down, that would’nt work either because unemployment will go even higher in our country. If we really want to hurt China economically, the best we can do is quit sending our products to be manufactured by their cheap labor.
Instead na bibili ako ng Ma Ling, gulay nalang. healthy pa and of course walang halong betsin.
the best we can do is quit sending our products to be manufactured by their cheap labor,
You are out of touch my friend, right now if we take away all the products manufactured in China our economy will tank, and you know what that means to those who try to make a living selling these stuff? I tell you what, you go ahead and convince the rest of our kababayans not to buy those sub-standards products made by the Chinese and let us know, let’s say in about five years, if it’s working out. One thing you must understand, it’s going to take a little time and the only way to hurt the Chinese is through global effort. The stuff that they are sending to our country are miniscule compare to the rest the world of the world.
another thing,
-imagine, Chinese eat fetus? napaka barbaric nila pati
NO WAY!
It was nice to know that we are the same thinking right now. We cannot win a battle with Arms. But when we do boycott their products. It will be a BIG BLOW in their economy. Filipino and American in a whole world. We Ask. Let’s do it…
Chriss, I started checking the labels of everything that I have at home, then I realized that if I get rid of them because they are all made in China I would’nt have anything. Right now I don’t have the money to replace them all with products made in other countries, so I guess I’m just going to have to deal with them for a while. I’ve been wanting to buy products that are made in the US but they are so hard to find. What do you think I should? Forgive me, I’m just being an ass, but this is reality folks, if we want to make a dent on China’s economic power, we really have to start at the core, tell Nike not to have China manufacture their shoes anymore.
Facebook, tweet, yahoo.skype. radio station and tv station, WE BOYCOTT CHINESE PRODUCTS!!!!
In America, products “MADE IN CHINA” are many such as shoes, food, clothes and others – depending on the brand name.
Say, the brand-named ADIDAS shoes. Even before the boycott fever came about, I bought my ADIDAS sport shoes that was “MADE IN INDONESIA” although there might have been ADIDAS shoes “MADE IN CHINA”.
But I don’t know the situation in the PHL. The PHL might have been dominated by “MADE IN CHINA” when it comes to shoes, but not necessarily in clothes and food items having an imprint of other than “MADE IN CHINA”.
But, the option what to buy is still with the buyer if he/she has few choices or no choice at all.
As we can see, the OWNER of the brand has many options where to send their materials and who will manufacture the finished product for them. And what we say here is not to patronize the one specifically “MADE IN CHINA”.
TRUE!!
this is what is wrong with some Filipinos, instead of uniting for a bigger force, wants to be a standout-or i,d say the Crabbiest of all! despicable Pinoy!!. that,s why we can never achieve a goal if some of us act, as usual, A CRAB!! ms Loida Nicholas’ cause for a boycott is the most affordable way to counter act chinese criminal agression.I’d say : LET ALL SUPPORT Ms. L. NICHOLAS all the way!!!!
We in the diaspora all across the globe, we can’t let chinese agression scare us, we have the intellect we learned and inherited from our forefathers and Philippine school, use them-ECONOMIC BOYCOTT is what we need. It’s better than others who LOVE to criticize but do NOTHING! Let support Ms. L. Nicholas china-good BOYCOTT campaign!! I go back to the philippines to buy clothes, I help not only our local business but promote made- in -the- philippine products.
I dont buy clothes in New York, most of them are POOR -quality china- made goods. For a start, I think I’m making a point here. If we can do this COLLECTIVELY, i think we can make a difference and an IMPACT on their market. BOYCOTT chinese goods!!!!
Ms. Lewis hit a raw nerve when she advocated for a boycott of products made in china so I say hit the enemy where it hurts – stop buying goods made in china EVERYTIME WE HAVE A CHANCE.
And for you Pareng Noah, be an optimist and a realist as you profess to be – if you cannot help us then just watch instead of recruiting people to be of your own kind – PABIGAT SA ADHIKAIN.
Lolo Jose, this is exactly what I’m talking about. Tell me something, what are some of the more pressing issues that is killing our country at this moment? It seems that you people are again being sidetrack by something that is going to be beyond our control. I agree with all of you that China is going to be a thorn on our side by their continuous intrusion into our territorial waters. That matter is for our government to deal with. Okay, we can all try to boycott all Chinese made products, but before we do that, let’s make sure that we have enough products out there to replace the ones from China, otherwise the entire country will be left out in the cold. We must stop being reactionary, we complain about everything, when the price of commodities goes up we bitch about it, but when the politicians are taking us for granted and continue to steal what belongs to the people, what do we do, we continue to elect them. Corruptions continue to hurt our system of government, unemployment is not getting any better, hunger and lack of education among the poor seem to be a continuous problem, pollution and lack of concern for the environment by the people. Do you want me to go on? So don’t tell me that I’m out of touch. As a retired US military, I have been to countries that are considered to be third world and believe me, every time I visit our country, all I see is an exact copy of some of those third world countries look like.
Salute to Loida, Aki. Eligio and others who are proactive to try the boycott specific for now till Sept. 1, 2012 . Let’s try it somehow. And dear Noah Crisologo please minimize your ‘put down’ attitude for now …psssssttt and you don’t have to get rid of what you have now. Let’s give this a chance. We learn from others and to me the word ‘copycat’ is a tactless word to use for here and now. MABUHAY and mga Pilipinos! Dios ti agngina cada cayo amin !!!All the best, eat your favorite PH food and be happy. (www.philamcookbook.com)
These people are always talking about things that is beyond their control, even if a million Filipinos quit buying stuff from China, what about the other eighty millions who could’nt care less whether it’s made in China or Timbuktu. Like I said before, Chinese products are being sold all over the world, the ones that are being sold to our country are nothing and I can guarantee you that the Chinese government could’nt care less whether we boycott their products or not. But one thing is for certain, they can also turn the wheel around and boycott our own products going to China and that includes OFW’s. Are we prepared to do that? That’s going to be an awful lot of mangoes and bananas not going anywhere.
Baluttttt!
Rodel’s column is so igniting and motivational that many , even nonFilipinos joined in the boycott efforts. It’s the only way we will be able to fight back because as of now, China had already have several ships anchored at the S.Shoal and making Filipino fishermen scared to continue their usual trade of fishing. It’s very sad situation , that’s why our USP4GG is sponsoring a Global Day of Prayer on August 21, 2012 and we are targetting more than 300 cities nationally, locally and globally. I have pledged to contact all the Archdiochese of San Francisco(along with their respective Diocese in different cities) and Archdiocese of Sacramento, along with its different Diocesan cities to help us in this Global Prayer Rally. I always believe in ” More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of”, and therefore, if we cannot win by our limited physical strength , equipments and weapons -boycotting products made in China is awesome and then Prayer is another great weapon to win. We can also ally with other small Asian countries that China are tryng to bully too including Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea etc. We will fight to the last!
I think before we all jump into the river let’s find out how deep the water is first, otherwise we may end up either dead or cripple for the rest of our lives. Many of you seem to think that I am defending the Chinese, I am not. First of all, we have to think of the consequences if we are to boycott all Chinese products. Remember that China has a bigger and stronger economy than us, I doubt that losing our business will even put a dent on their economy but they can surely put one on ours. Are’nt we also exporting some products to China? What’s going to happen when all of a sudden they decided to also boycott our products, what then? And how about our OFW’s, these people may be force to go home because of all of these? Right now our economy is saturated with products made in China, I doubt that trying to convince almost ninety million Filipinos to quit buying these products is not going to be an easy task. This problem is for our government to resolve, with the help of the Filipino people of course. But if we are going to do it the way we elect our politicians, then it is like spitting against the wind, if you get my meaning.
I think the BOYCOTT “ MADE IN CHINA” is gaining grounds gradually.
“However, you may now refer to the barcode – remember if the first 3 digits are:
690-692 … then it is MADE IN CHINA
00 – 09 …USA & CANADA
30 – 37 FRANCE
40 – 44 GERMANY
471… Taiwan
49 … JAPAN
50 … UK “
The foregoing is portion of an article you’ll find ahead of write up “P-NOY YOU MADE CHANGE POSSIBLE”.
To amigo Noah and Jesse – there is always a 1st STEP and we are still there on the boycott.
I take things in stride and my mind is already conditioned in boycotting anything about CHINA.
What if CHINA revenged?
So what? It is too early to predict the outcome.
CHINA did it first by rejecting our banana exports and now their multitudes of fishing boats are feasting in PHL waters despite our diplomatic protests.
Basta ituloy ang LABAN SA KALABAN NA MAYABANG. WALANG EPEKTO ANG BOYCOTT AGAD-AGAD. IT TAKES TIME TO GET A RESULT.
“EXCUSE ME, DO YOU’VE OTHER BRANDS PLEASE?”
Multiply it many times over and businesses will get the message in the long run.
Kung balak n’yo na mag-tour sa GREAT WALL, postponed muna – maybe for security and sentimental reasons.
But the final choice or decision is always YOURS, MI AMIGO Y AMIGA.
This is a good start to boycott Chinese products (not Taiwan). Today, Aug.1, 2012,there appeared under “Gadgets” section of the Inquirer, cellphone products of (hold your breath)ZTE CORP (yes the same one as in the GMA scandal). These are priced P15,000 and P13,000, so these are not for the masa. Can all Filipinos (who can afford to buy) not buy any product from ZTE?
