Not to be outdone by the Liberal Party’s plan to raise a 500,000-strong “Yellow Army” to monitor the polls, the Nacionalista Party is going to raise a “rainbow army” of one million volunteers.  Whoa!  What if some of these “volunteers” end up with firearms on election day and become trigger-happy?  Heaven forbid!

NP to form ‘rainbow army’ vs poll fraud

MANILA, Philippines — The Nacionalista Party (NP) is raising a “rainbow army” of at least one million volunteers to defend the sanctity of the ballot and ensure clean and honest elections this May, a party official said on Thursday.

But unlike other parties cladding its volunteers only in one hue, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, NP secretary-general, said party would have volunteers “from all political colors.”

“The color for clean elections should not come in one color only. We don’t want to put people in monochromatic straitjackets,” Cayetano said in a statement.

“That’s why the people’s movement for clean elections we are launching would have as members the greens, those whose signature get-up is feminist purple, the progressive reds, or if school color is the reference, from Ateneo’s blue to La Salle’s green, to the University of the Philippines’ maroons,” he said.

And while other parties would only protect the votes of their candidates, Cayetano explained that NP’s “rainbow army” would not be as selfish and subjective.
